How to Manage Your Family’s Medical Records

It is essential for one to have an excellent medical record management system as it could represent the meaning of life and death for some people, even if it is a simple paper-based system. The first step that one will need for the setup is to prepare some files with three ring binders. You can arrange the information according to the categories or even tabs so that the information can be easily searched and accessed.

Here is how you can group all the related medical data of each and everyone of your family members. If there are any members who are currently on any medications, one should list down the name of the drug(s) followed by the medicine instructions such as dosage taken as per when. For emergency purposes, it is also advisable to keep the name and contact number of your local pharmacy.

For infants to young adults, it is important to keep a record of all their updated immunization shots. Bear in mind that the doctors do recommend for adults to get a tetanus jab every ten years. So, with this system, it will be the perfect place to keep track of this information.

Other than that, any history of allergies should not be taken lightly. Therefore, the system should include all information on the drugs and seasonal allergies. These information may prove to be useful and should be easy to reach for a quick action if an allergy attack should occur.

Another important category to be filed in the system is the personal health history. All medical history of past surgeries or procedures, injuries, illnesses or any family history of diabetes or cancer should be arranged in chronological order accordingly. And last but not least, all test results received from hospital, healthcare providers or labs should be kept in a proper place in the system for future references.

It is ideal for each family member to be responsible for their own medical records filing.
